Hi..

I am not frequent user of blogs.. But very interesting topic that i want to share with you guys..

As i am a recruiter, I am always wanted to work with start up companies. But it’s really challenging to me to place candidates such a small companies.

So recently i posted a question in Linkedin.com about placing the candidates in start up companies.

Many start up companies are looking hands on techie guys from top most MNC companies. Is it really helpful to candidates to change from big companies to start up companies?

In my opinion yes it is tough job. But some of them are interested cause

1) Salary hike

2) Technologies which companies are using (Like Android,Cloud computing,Mobile TV,I phone applications, GIS etc..)

3) Who wants to take more responsibilities

4) Returned Indians

Here some of them are answered my question on Linked .

1)It is difficult to move from a Big company to start-up, due to factors like uncertainly, insecurity, and growth prospects. In large companies, there tends to be more specialized, narrower in scope and comes invariably, office politics.
Start-ups offer the opportunity of designing, planning and implementation of new policies, programs, and influencing the culture. It takes more entrepreneur spirit, and possibly, greater personal risk.
So, it really depends on if the individual is up to the challenge, take risk, and reap the rewards later.

2) Trying to hire people from top mnc’s to work in start up companies has it’s pro’s and con’s.
It’s important to have a positive attitude while trying to approach candidates from reputed organization. Before we actively scout for talents it’s important to understand the advantages which the start company offer’s which may not be available in well established companies. For example, in top companies the value of individual is much lesser than start ups. In start up companies an employee will have a more rounded experience where as such opportunities are very limited established Co’s. Employees who prefer freedom and have the drive to create their own career path will certainly find startups more interesting then established companies.

3) Don’t go after everyone, not everyone is cut out to be in a startup. There is fair amount of risk, ambiguity and uncertainity in a startup. Look for creative people who thrive in chaos, look for people who love creating a company, look for people who are passionate about work and well rounded experience and also look for people who want to get rich at the end of the startup going public or being sold.

MNC experience is well rounded only on the top, else you have people with very focused and deep specialized skills. Also large established companies are steady and do not value talent as much as startups do. Likewise people who have been born and baked in a startup will tend ot get frustrated with the red tape of a large company.

4)Some convincing factors could be:
1) Monetary Benefits: If the budget allows give them good percentage hike…along with other incentive packages and perks..
2) Non-Monetary:
a) Heirarchy: Flat heirarchy in start up Organisations give them scope to attain senior positions/roles & responsibilities which leads to fast career progression.
b) Exposure: Broaden the scope of his exposure. Jack of all trade…will get hands on complete lifecycle of the project/product which he will never get in big MNC’s where they have experts for all phases.
c) Leadership: Across the table discussions with the Top Management, which he will never get in big MNC’s unless he is a top notch guy..Generally the owners of start up companies come with lot of experience in their resp. industry market and are experts..
d) Ownership: Freedom to take decision and taking ownership for those decisions…

Whether to change from MNC’s to Start-ups is an Individual’s decision and how he wants to shape his career. As for me it’s always…Higher the RISK..higher the GAIN….So, take your GO!!!

5)In my Opinion: Don’t show Carrots instead show them the challenges he can expect. Study his Profile well and show a Career Path which this Start up has to offer.
Professionals working in MNC’s have an Appetite for Authority + Responsibility backed by Reward and Recognition which seldom is not possible due to Hierarchy and the framework they work.
You will be able to convince Professionals with Entrepreneurial Potentials which sometimes gets buried in MNC’s.
A go getter will never say “No” to something with better Career Options.
Hope it helps.
